I snapped

Today is the day from hell. I have a million things to do, and have absolutely no help. Did 5 loads of laundry and have lots more to do. Goat hooves trimmed. Three types of muffins baked. Watered the plants. Sooooo much more but... you get the pic.

All of this with a horrible wind storm that's actually moving my car... constant wind buffeting.

Then fought with e-bay for 4 hours. Jerks there at customer service, especially that Chris L. Gotta find a better place to list things. Ideas?

Meanwhile, between the escalating frustration with ebay and the Kid who took **4** hours to do TWO pages of math and fought every moment of the way...

I SNAPPED!

For ten minutes I yelled at the house in general, plus the Kid, about how I'm the only one who does anything around here. Maid. Cook. Laundress. Dish washer. Bill payer. Shopper. Gift giver. Seamstress. Schoolteacher.

Ticks me off that I found the kitty litter poop-scooper on top of a blanket. A blanket! And that nobody can seem to walk the extra 2 steps to place something in the trash can. Or that I have to be the one to remember that Monday the trash has to be gathered and placed at the bottom of the driveway. Or that the chickens and goats need food, water and hay.

So I threw on warm pants, grabbed a jacket and my purse and keys, and walked out.

Kid: Where ya going?

Me: Out.

Slam. I drove to the closest store (10 minutes ... country market), bought a Sprite Zero (although I wanted candy and chips and a pizza), picked up the mail, and drove back to the house where I sat for a good 30 minutes, reading a paper and drinking my soda. When I finally came back in, found the Kid packing to run away.

Again. Second time in 3 weeks.

Because I ask him to do chores and do his schoolwork.

I'm out of patience.

I want a huge bowl of chocolate chips and half a jar of peanut butter.

I'm not gonna. But I want it.

I want a cigarette.

I'm tired.

Guess I'm gonna go take the freaking trash can to the freaking bottom of the freaking driveway.

This isn't going to be a very popular comment - but didn't you just set the example for running away when things get too stressful? Well, at least you came back.

I don't know your kid or how old he is, but I'd make him do some of those chores if he can't do his homework. At least SOMETHING will get done.

Hang in there . . . life is hard but those goats are adorable. One way or another, you'll get through this. you're only gonna be madder if you binge.

Tell the kids to get with the program and help out a little around the house. And make the goats trim their own damn hooves!

Maybe sit the kids down tomorrow in a quiet moment and explain to them what happened today - how stressed you were because of all the work and how it is not healthy for you. Then pose to them, "how do you think you could help cause I need your help". I find with my boys when I get edgy and snappy, they get verbally aggressive too and no one gets anywhere. Hang in there and I'm glad you stuck to the Sprite 0.

More stress than anyone could bear -- sounds like a lot. I remember my mom having moments like that too and taking off to the store to cool off. Never did us any permanent harm! And it seemed to help her a lot, so... Glad you didn't binge on anything and hang in there!

Lainie: If I hadn't left, I would have said something I regret. I had never left before. I was back home pretty quickly, and calmer.

Jack: If they could, I'd make them.

Mind: Good idea. I will talk with my Kid this morning.

Anon: Thanks.

It got worse. Last night the windstorm knocked a chicken coop over and into a fence. Luckily no one was hurt but that's yet another thing.

Thanks to all of you for the support.

Sounds like you've had a tough 24 hours, hang in there! I can't offer any advice regarding the kid (19 and childless, I've got another 9 months before my chances of getting on 'teen mom' are up!), but the other comments seem helpful - a calm discussion where you designate chores sounds productive and logical. Kids have to learn at some point!

Hey Vee -- just letting you know that Anonymous comment was from me. Don't know why it came up unknown. Anyway, hope you are feeling better!

WHOAH, tough day, Vee! I hope things are better by now. Sometimes we all just snap. When I told my kid I really needed his help (yeah, that was after snapping as well) he turned around and did just that: helped. It can be pretty empowering for a kid, being asked for help.

But I know what you need more than advice, is just a (((hug))). Hang in there, and soon the Freaking will turn into the Fabulous again!
